A Close Connection with Backyard Friends

Watching feeders has always been a calming experience for myself. They're like backyard friends that show up in exchange for some seed. I get to watch them interact with each other, learn their individual habits, and then they're off to wherever their next destination may be. I find comfort in their mostly predictable routines. The Blue Jay is usually early with the skittish White-breasted Nuthatch not far behind. Soon after, the finches, various sparrows, and Northern Cardinals arrive for their breakfast. The harbinger of Winter- the Dark-eyed Junco- signals the change of seasons in my area. But that all changed when I became nomadic. I knew my friends would be okay, but it was difficult to leave them behind. Birdfy by Netvue feeders changed that.

Now, no matter where I am, I can check in on them. Birdfy allows me to not only see moments that happened each day, but I can also drop in live! No matter if I'm on the Gulf Coast looking at shorebirds, the Rio Grande Valley searching for rare vagrants, the Olympic Peninsula digging through flocks of gulls, or getting ready to board a pelagic on one of our oceans, I can count on Birdfy when I want visit my backyard friends.

    Simple Setup, Well-Rounded Support

Set-up was a breeze. Birdfy includes multiple ways to mount the feeder so you get to pick what's perfect for you. I was a little skeptical of the solar panel keeping my feeder charged, but over three months of zero issues wiped out all doubt. I had a little issue setting up my connection in the bright sun scanning the QR code. I hit the customer service button and within seconds I was chatting with a live person! They told me to block the sun with my hand and just like that it connected. I would also like to point out this was totally my fault for not reading the directions. Who can blame me? I wanted to get that feeder up! If you like, you can also share moments with your friends and post to social media. Another awesome feature is being able to give people who are special in your life access to watch your feeder. I recently used this option and it has created some wonderful conversations. There's even two-way audio so you can say “hi” when filling the feeder…or telling that pesky squirrel (that we all love) to scram!

I have the extended perch for my feeder which also includes a small hummingbird nectar feeder and a suet ball feeder. It really seems like they thought of everything.

Bird Moments with Friends and Family

I truly believe that spending time with birds in whatever capacity you're able is extremely beneficial to mental health and well-being. I think about people with limited mobility, people in long-term care facilities, and other individuals with access challenges and how Birdfy’s feeders can bring the same joy to all of them as it does to me. These feeders create access which in my opinion is the foundation of birding. I'm looking forward to the future and dreaming of big ideas to open the wonderful world of birding to everyone who wants to participate. With Birdfy, those dreams are become reality.
