At Birdfy, we believe that birdwatching isn’t just a hobby—it’s a pathway to healing, connection, and rediscovery. Few stories exemplify this better than that of Alicia Jay from Florida, whose Birdfy journey began in 2022 and has since blossomed into something truly remarkable.

Alicia grew up immersed in nature, exploring Florida’s wild beauty with her uncle—fishing, hunting, learning about wildlife, and developing a deep respect for the outdoors. But like many of us, adulthood came with overwhelming responsibilities: a fast-paced job, single motherhood, and then the isolation and upheaval of the pandemic. Her peace had slipped away unnoticed.
    Then, everything changed—again.
In 2022, Alicia discovered Birdfy. What started as a way to bring the joy of birdwatching to her nearly 90-year-old grandmother turned into a personal reawakening. The Birdfy feeder camera rekindled her love for wildlife and brought a sense of purpose back to her own backyard. For the first time in years, she paused, listened, and watched. And the birds came—blue jays, woodpeckers, even a pair of screech owls. Every day brought a new surprise, and every visitor told a new story.

But Birdfy became more than a feeder. It became Alicia’s creative outlet and emotional lifeline, especially after breaking her ankle in 2023. Stuck at home and unable to work, she poured her energy into documenting her backyard life. With her daughter’s help, she created videos, narrated stories, and unknowingly touched thousands with her content. Facebook eventually invited her to become a digital creator. Birdfy noticed, too.
When we reached out to Alicia about testing our new Bamboo feeder, she jumped at the chance—and we were honored. Her thoughtful feedback, storytelling spirit, and love for her birds perfectly embodied everything we hope to inspire in our community. To her, the Bamboo wasn’t just a camera. It was her daily moment of magic, her reminder that joy could be found right outside her door.

Alicia often says she’s “just a crazy local bird lady.” But to us? She’s proof that connection to nature—no matter how small the space—can ground us, heal us, and bring us back to ourselves.
