🏆🥇1st Prize Champion-Michaela Gable's Project

I am a woodworker and built a birdhouse inspired by a log cabin.

🎉🥈2nd Prize Winner-Shelby Guthrie's Project

The Tiger's Roost uses upcycled wood to inspire conservation and birdwatching. This will serve as a living model with four houses and a built-in feeder for my school, whose mascot is a tiger.

🎉🥈2nd Prize Winner-Off grid with jay and jen's Project

Super mega exteneded perch! Add a suet cage and give birds lots of space to eat and share! Enclose the bottom for even more food—for those hungry birds!

⭐🥉3rd Prize Winner-Robert Wheeler's Project 2

PETG 3D Printed Seed Guard for Feeder 2. Designed with smaller holes so the seed does not get scattered and is harder for squirrels to chew thru. My original design.

⭐🥉3rd Prize Winner-Charlotte Bone’s Project

Wheeled weatherproof feeder with pigeon-proof cage & rain umbrella protecting the bamboo. Storm-ready design for small birds only in British weather!

Debbie Ball's Project

Being a bird lover, and living where there are four seasons, I had to get creative to keep the seed dry for my visitors (it's empty in the photos, as I am cleaning it today).

Ed Harris's Project

Sparrow-B-Gone! for Birdfy Feeder 1 keeps invasive House Sparrows away from your Birdfy feeder! Part of the Sparrow-B-Gone! family of products (available on Etsy)..

Lewis La Salle‘s project

Inspired by Victorian architecture: 16 private nesting boxes, 2,000 tiny cedar shingles individually cut and stained by hand, the widow’s walk is crafted of small screw eyelets and finishing nails.

Ed Harris's Project 2

Sparrow-B-Gone! for Birdfy Metal Bird Feeder keeps invasive House Sparrows away from your Birdfy Metal feeder! Part of the Sparrow-B-Gone! family of products (available on Etsy)..

Shelley Young's Project

Added a diy cage around my feeder to protect from squirrels and large birds, allowing all the small birds to still feed happily.

Melissa Morris' s Project

This is a roof for the Birdfy Hum feeder. The roof prevents glare from the sun, and keeps raindrops off the camera lenses. This results in clearer images. I'll post the file online for free.

Norton Ewart's Project

Squirrel proof cage. Very DIY, and iterative as the camera revealed weakness in the defense that needed shoring up

Greg Ramey's project

A tray feeder great for meal worms and attracting birds that like an open tray design

Birdfy Nest

Birdfy Cam

Birdfy Perch

🏆🥇1st Prize Champion-Heather Gee's Project

A roof that slides onto the Birdfy standalone camera to shield the lens from rain, snow, and droppings.

🎉🥈2nd Prize Winner-Timothy Fluharty' s Project

I combined two of the best hobbies into one! My 7 year old son loves watching me watch the birds and when I told him I wanted to submit something he suggested Lego!

🎉🥈2nd Prize Winner-Timothy Fluharty' s Project

The Birdfy Boo Bucket has been a hit so far

⭐🥉3rd Prize Winner-Finn Steele's Project

Me and my grandmother decorated the Birdfy for Halloween so the birds can get into the Halloween spirit. I hope you like it and please vote me for NO.1.

⭐🥉3rd Prize Winner-Gruff Thomas's Project

How do you use a nest box out of season? Turn it into a feeder. Plus potential residents can check out the property before spring arrives. But the white pigeon is too big

Genevieve Sharp‘s Project

I got the black and white idea to match my house colors and the bird ideas came from the birds that often visit me at my feeder. I also wanted to include the menu that lists common seeds used in feeder

Debbie Berthold' s Project

Clear plastic trash can, upside down with a hole cut for birds with a perch inside and out. The bottom is held on by velcro so squirrels cannot get in.

Michele Madick' s Project

This is a suet feeder my husband constructed. We will now put our Birdfy camera on it. We have many big woodpeckers and blue jays in Manitoba, Canada so the suet feeders on the market were too small.

Michael Crabb's Project

DIY squirrel guards made from leftover aluminum flashing.

Robert Wheeler's Project

Seed Guard for Feeder 1. Designed to clamp onto the feeder so it cannot be so easily removed by squirrels or other animals and also thicker so not as easily chewed thru.

Gregory Ramey's Project

An oriole jelly feeder featuring a Birdfy Gen 1 camera and removable jelly jars.

James Prideaux's Project

3d printed simple form to stop seeds from sitting on top of flat space above camera

Tim Kennedy's Project

Carbon fiber (PA-CF25) humming bird feeder platform with built in ant moat.

It All Started in an Ohio Backyard

It All Started in an Ohio Backyard... With Our Birdfy Friend, Jim.

By day, Jim is a tech consultant, podcast host, and a seasoned maker who helps big companies perfect their products. But in his off-hours, he’s in his own backyard, using his tech and his two hands to build a beautiful sanctuary where nature can thrive. Birds, butterflies, bats, and bees are all regular residents.

Two years ago, his search for a “smart bird feeder with a camera” led him to Birdfy. But in his hands, it became so much more than just a way to watch birds. It was the security camera for his front yard, a window to check the weather at home while traveling, and it even accidentally captured the moment Jim took a tumble in the yard. Most importantly, it became a launchpad for him and his partner, Gillie, to get creative, live more sustainably and take care of the living creatures around them.

As a maker with multiple 3D printers, a CNC machine, and a laser cutter in his workshop, Jim had a brilliant suggestion for us when the Birdfy team visited his home this past June. “You guys should open-source the 3D design files for your accessories,” he said. “It won't just help users save money and solve problems—it will make them feel trusted. That's how you build real goodwill and create a community."

That conversation was a lightbulb moment for us. We realized that the ultimate goal of our products isn't just the product itself, but the warmth and connection it brings to people. Our products can become a part of your life, and even an extension of your own creativity.

And just like that, the Birdfy DIY Community was born.

This is an open community for all the “Jims” out there—whether you’re a tech wizard, a craft lover, a nature observer, or just someone who loves to create. We’re opening up our design files and encouraging you to share, build, and collaborate. We hope this is a place where you can create your own “The Bird Side of Life” story.

Just like Jim and Gillie, you can start with a feeder and go on to build bee hotels and bat boxes, creating a sustainable, friendly, and smart ecosystem.

Welcome to Birdfy DIY. Let’s create with nature and explore what’s possible—together.
