to Fall Migration

How Often to Refresh

Warm weather makes nectar spoil fast.
Refresh based on temperature:
70–75°F (21–24°C) → Every 5 days
76–81°F (25–27°C) → Every 4 days
82–86°F (28–30°C) → Every 3 days
87–90°F (31–32°C) → Every 2 days
Over 90°F (Over 32°C) → Daily refresh!

Don't Pack Up Too Soon

Myth:
Cooler days mean it's time to take the feeder down.
Fact:
Migration is triggered by daylight, not temperature. Keeping your feeder up won't delay their journey—it just gives them fuel for the trip.

The Right Recipe

Mix 4 parts water to 1 part white sugar.

Bring the water to a boil.
Stir in the sugar until fully dissolved.
Let it cool completely.
Store leftover nectar in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Golden Hour, Prime Time

Hummingbirds feed most right after sunrise and right before sunset. Catch them in the evening light for the best view—and the best visuals.

Habitat Setup

Hang the feeder in a visible spot, ideally 10–15 feet (3–4.5 meters) from shrubs or trees that provide nearby shelter.
Plant native flowers that attract hummingbirds naturally—like Cardinal Flower, Bee Balm, and Trumpet Honeysuckle.
