FAQs
Once your smart birdhouse is connected to the Birdfy app, you can watch your avian tenants right from your phone! The Birdfy app is free to download and offers live streaming, auto-recorded clips, and instant alerts - all for free!
Ensure your device is fully charged before starting the pairing process. Download the latest version of the Birdfy app from the App Store or Google Play. After downloading, create an account, select 'Add Device' on the home page, choose the product you purchased, and follow the in-app instructions to pair your device.
*Please make sure you are using a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
It connects via Wi-Fi, specifically on the 2.4GHz frequency. Why 2.4GHz? Compared to 5GHz, it offers a wider range and stronger signal through walls, making it ideal for outdoor use. This frequency is a common standard for most security cameras and smart devices, ensuring a stable and reliable connection.
The Birdfy Nest supports only one mounting method: hanging.
- Hanging nestboxes offer several advantages:
- Cooler Temperatures: Hanging boxes benefit from tree foliage, which provides shade and keeps the box cooler than ground-mounted options.
- Easy to Relocate: These nestboxes can be moved easily, making them versatile.
- Safer for Fledglings: Fledglings are already close to trees, reducing their risk of predator attacks when taking their first flight from the nest box to the safety of the branches.
- Important tips for hanging your birdhouse:
- Height Matters: Hang the nestbox at least 8 feet (2.4 meters) off the ground, whether on a tree or other structure.
- Distance from the Trunk: Place the nestbox at least 5 feet (1.5 meters) from the main tree trunk to further protect it from predators.
Warning: If you live in an area with severe predator issues (e.g., climbing snakes), consider hanging your nestbox on a pole equipped with a stovepipe baffle. This setup provides better protection for the nesting birds.
The Birdfy Nest operates within a temperature range of 14℉ to 113℉ (-10℃ to 45℃). If the temperature falls outside this range, the camera may not power on or record motion-triggered videos. With an IP66 waterproof rating, the Birdfy Nest Duo is built to withstand rain and snow, ensuring reliable performance in various weather conditions.
Your bird videos and photos are stored in the cloud, so no need to worry about using up your local storage (phew!). Birdfy provides FREE unlimited cloud storage for the duration of the current story. Once the story ends, you’ll have 30 days to download your videos before they are permanently deleted.
With the optional 10-foot range camera controller, you can easily manage the power, settings, and even reboot the Birdfy Nest from a safe distance. No need to disturb your feathered friends—keep their space sacred while ensuring everything runs smoothly with remote access!
bonyStory is a unique Al function available on the Birdfy Nest Duo. lt consists of two parts: bird behavior identification and automatic video clip generation.
- Bird Behavior ldentification: Al recognizes bird actions, notifying you of key stages like nesting and hatching, storing them as video clips.
- Automatic Video Clip Generation: Post fledging, Al merges and edits clips into engaging breeding process videos.
Note: Story is free, activated automatically with Birdfy Nest Ebony.

Love it!
i like this product so good!
good product and the bird come!!!!
The Nest adds such a peaceful touch to my backyard, I love just sitting outside and listening.
Looks great!
Arrived really quickly and was super easy to set up. We're still waiting for birds to use it, but that was our mistake for buying it slightly too late in the season. Fingers crossed that we'll get lucky with a later brood!
Easy set up but the cords are waaayyy to long
I received the birdhouse as a Christmas present. The solar panel works well. My biggest complaint is the wood. I doubt it will last past this summer. I added a predator guard to the entrance. The screws were small and the wood is so soft it immediately began to split. It wasn’t possible to hang the camera since it was constantly spinning. We placed it on a sturdy pole with a squirrel guard.
Bought it as a gift as part of their “Christmas Sale”. Delivered in a box loudly proclaiming what was inside. Ruined the surprise when my wife came home first. For what they charge for these things, tbey could have invested in a brown cardboard box like literally everything else sold online. Their markting is heavy on the idea of it being a gift. Should have thought that through more.
It feels like I installed a tiny wildlife hideout right in my backyard, and the results are real.
The interior view stays clear even at night which helps when birds are most active.
The camera captures even small nest activity moments I'd never see from a distance.
The wood finish feels cozy and natural which makes birds comfortable visiting from day one.
Too early to put it outside in CT
The app is easy to use I don't need to fiddle with settings, just tap and watch.
I like that the build feels sturdy enough to stay outside through rain and wind.
Watching nesting progress from egg to hatch through my phone adds a new little joy every day.
This birdhouse brought a subtle slice of nature into my daily routine and I enjoy checking it often.
Setup was quick and I had the live feed running in less than 15 minutes.
Birds seem relaxed around it I've seen them entering and leaving calmly which makes the footage feel natural.
The wood has held up well through light rain so far, no warping or moisture issues, which is great for long term use.
I wish I had more time to sit and watch live, but the highlight clips later always include something charming to brighten my day.
Even on a cloudy morning the motion alerts still triggered, which was a pleasant surprise considering how inconsistent my Wi-Fi is outdoors.
I'm amazed how the interior camera picks up subtle movement, even when the birds are barely shifting inside the nest.
Cleaning the back panel is simple and swapping entrance holes for different species is a nice touch I didn't expect.
The wood looks beautiful in person and blends so well with my trees that it doesn't feel like an eyesore or tech item.
I installed the Nest a few days ago and already feel like I have a secret wildlife portal in my yard. Watching nesting activity unfold makes me pause and breathe.
As someone who is not very tech oriented I like that the settings are easy to understand. Motion detection, notifications and lighting controls feel intuitive to use.
Maintenance has been less effort than expected. Cleaning, replacing entrance plates and monitoring activity all fit easily into my morning routine.
I've observed that the Nest attracts birds more quickly in the early morning than at midday. Perhaps cooler light encourages more activity. That pattern makes me check the app often.
Watching the birds grow from nest building through fledgling feels like a journey I get to witness. It adds meaning to my day that I didn't anticipate.
Installation was straightforward. I used the mounting option for trees and the view inside the Nest is undisturbed. The camera remains steady even after rain.
App usability is strong. The Story feature makes it easy to catch up on nesting stages without having to scroll through every clip. It feels thoughtful rather than overwhelming.
Design details matter and I appreciate the thoughtful entrance size options. Because of that, I started seeing different kinds of birds nesting that I hadn't seen before.
I've placed the Nest in partial shade and it has handled varied weather with grace. The wood finish still looks good and the camera captures nesting activity clearly both day and night.
The Nest feels like a genuine connection to nature every time I open the app. Watching nesting birds build their home and care for their young gives me a little front row seat to a miracle I never expected in my own yard.
Caring for this Nest has brought me a surprising sense of calm. Even small moments of hearing chirps or seeing wings move feel like highlights in a busy day.
Customer service checked in after a week and I really appreciated that care.
It arrived earlier than the tracking estimated, which was a nice surprise.
