Customer video review of Birdfy Shield - Bird Feeder Shield

Not starling NOR squirrel proof. I cannot use poles due to local bear breaking them, so I attached it to the side of my house. I put on the cage thinking it would keep the starlings and squirrels from hoarding but it doesn’t work on either of them. In fact, a squirrel got himself stuck and I had to free him when I got home. If I wasn’t there sooner, he could’ve died.

It doesn't keep squirls out and they can actually get stuck (see video) fortunately I was able to free this one and remove the cage

Great addition to my feeder, but I was hoping the shield would prevent the vacuum cleaner bluejays from scarfing up so many seeds. I've counted several jays taking 45-50 black sunflower seeds at each roosting! I thought of maybe wrapping an addition wire through the lower grid but that would keep the cardinals out too. So I'm letting them all eat or stuff their crops to their individual pleasure. It is fun to watch them balance on the perch trying to grab whatever seeds they can reach! Thank you for hours of pleasure!

You really don’t realize how birds compliment our lives everyday. I can really appreciate them with my Birdfy camera feeder! It is the best feeder on the market. Sturdy, strong and with the purchase of the seed guard and cage shield it discourages squirrels. The small birds hop right in and the larger birds perch to feed. Great company stands behind their product. Mine is located about 10 feet from my stairwell and the camera alerts me of approaching animals or visitors. This was an added plus after the first view from my camera . I highly recommend this feeder snd you can be sure the company will stand behind its product.

I bought the cage for my Birdfy feeder to keep the squirrels out. This guy tried to get in and got stuck. Took him a little while to get out, but he did, and he hasn’t been back since! So glad I bought it. It fits perfectly and hasn’t come off

The shield, plus the zip tie fence I made, keeps the Mourning Doves from camping out in the feeder. Without it, Fatt Matt and his friends could empty the feeder in an hour!

Love my feeder and ordered the Sheila to go with it to help keep the squirrels and big birds out but as you can see the squirrel made it all the way in

Keeps the bigger birds out . They can get a beak and head in but can’t camp out in the seed and eat it all

My feeder was invaded with big black birds this year. They would not leave it alone. My little birds couldn't get to it. The shield has eliminated this problem. I still have some doves that stick their neck through it, but now only small birds can feast on my birdseed. And, it is easy to put on and take off when I needed to clean it out after a rain. Thanks so much!

I bought this specifically to keep the grackles out, along with the seed guard. The grackles were not deterred. I added twist tie barriers between the big openings, as you can see. The grackles figured out how to get in from the sides even though I also removed the perch. I added more twist ties and that seems to be working. The smaller birds are able to come & go quite easily. I would suggest Birdfy alter their specs on this and have the openings be smaller. I am pleased with the seed guard.

We bought this after the squirrels kept tearing off the seed cover addition. We saw some changes to who visited (didn’t see nuthatches or woodpeckers), but still saw a wide array. The cage worked for about a month before the squirrels spoiled the fun. Came home to a squirrel stuck in the cage as it tried to escape through a smaller section. His nuts got him in trouble while trying to get the nuts! Had to call animal control and have it bolt cut out. Don’t work for me and had to throw it out after it was cut up. If you’ve got a major squirrel population, it may or may not be the best choice.

Doves and blackbirds were taking over! The smaller birds could sometimes sneak in there to eat, but the doves would make such a mess- all the food would end up in the ground within a day. I removed the perch when I installed the shield (as recommended by others here) and it has worked like charm!! The doves and blackbirds still eat from the ground but the little guys have returned to the feeder. Highly recommend!

Did not keep this pesty squirrel out of the bird seed. I gave it a “3” rather than a “1” because, once the squirrel ate up all the seeds in the front of the feeder, it couldn’t get further in to eat all of the seeds like it did last time.

So far, so good. Left the perch off, so no squirrels and doves to hog up the food.

It’s not keeping the big birds out but it has definitely helped. I am going to try removing the perch and will give an update.

Took an hour or so before the squirrel went inside. The next day they reached in and ate or went back in. Guess they didn’t like being in there because they chewed both sides of the feeder. Can’t use the guards I had already ordered. Plus they’re plastic so squirrels would just chew on it too. Guesss I’ll take the shield off so they don’t completely destroy my feeder.

Customer video review of Birdfy Shield

So disappointing. Before purchasing I watched videos from other users to make sure that blackbirds could get in, but mine just poke their heads in a little and don't squeeze their bodies through. What is far worse is that the squirrels have no problem also shoving their heads in and having a good munch. Same goes for the magpies. At least the squirrel can't sit inside and finish absolutely everything anymore. Perhaps if the shield protruded more so there was a greater distance between the food and it, that could do the trick.

Squirrel got in within a few minutes of putting it up. Then on day 2 it and would go in and sometimes just reach in and eat, noticed it chewed the side of the feeder. Must of gotten in and was digging out???? Only took 2 days to destroy my feeder. Cage is metal but of course feeder is plastic. Why wouldn't it be built with some metal because you know squirrels always get in and chew. Taking the shield off. I still have guard on its way , but won't put that on . I will assume it will just get destroyed and possible get the feeder chewed even more. This was a bad decision on my part. Bummer! The plus was. I actually had gotten more birds when I had it on. How strange.

I was hopeful that this would keep squirrels out of my feeder, but it doesn’t work. It took them all of about 10 minutes to crawl in and start scarfing up the birdseed. I used the alarm the first time and scared one off. Now, they just “dance” to the alarm. I’m sorry I spent any money on this!

I am loving my birdfy Shield. It is great to keep out squirrels and large birds. I have really saved on the amount of seed since I've started using it. It is quick and easy to attach or remove. You can fill the hopper without removing it and it looks great!!

I do not have the screen and like the idea, but I'd like to see something for the birdfy mini and a screen that would block the plague of grackles. I love all the other birds. They get along well, including the blue jays, but the grackles are selfish. They follow the other birds around, they're bullies, and they suck up everything until it's gone. Please make a screen for the other bird feeders.

Birdfy Shield - Bird Feeder Shield

As a gift, I received the shield for my Birdfy. I filled the feeder, attached the shield and returned the Birdfy to its place. The feeder ran out of seed a few days ago and when I went to refill it, I lifted the cover as usual and whoa! I was unable to lift it enough to access where you load the seed. To do that, I have to take off the shield (4 wing nuts), which is a pain. This seems like a true engineering problem and it's hard for me to imagine how this got through testing.

Birdfy Shield - Bird Feeder Shield

This screen is worthless - listen to the other reviews detailing how squirrels can still get in - I didn’t listen and wish I had.

Birdfy Shield - Bird Feeder Shield

Nice wire shield cage, but you must unscrew perch and Remove Perch for cage to work best! Otherwise bigger birds sit on perch and stick heads in shield to eat all your seeds. Without perch it’s much harder for big junk birds to get to your food! The perch is usually useless anyways and mostly used by big junk birds. wire shield cage also can protect the smaller birds when inside cage from being grabbed off feeder by a Hawk

Birdfy Shield - Bird Feeder Shield

We were pretty upset after we put this on and noticed that the squirrels were still getting to the feeder. The squirrel even managed to scratch up the side of the feeder and dig off a pretty big chunk of the plastic to try to get to the seeds. We also have the sea guard on which they easily pull off. Nothing from this company has been effective at keeping the squirrels away. The only reason I’m not giving this one star is that the metal is very strong and it was very easy to attach to the feeder so the utility is great, but the function is terrible.

Birdfy Shield - Bird Feeder Shield

Squirrels still seem to be able to get in there and get the food, but it slows them down at least.

Birdfy Shield - Bird Feeder Shield

All my small birds now have a feeder of their own. All the bigger birds are leaving this feeder alone and are using the bamboo feeder!
