    Crafted for Birds, DIY Your Inspiration!

    The very first Birdfy DIY Challenge officially wrapped up in October. In more than a month, the event attracted an array of creative DIY projects, and presented an opportunity for birders to have a glimpse at the fun and joyous side of backyard birdwatching. Among them, ten projects amassing the highest votes won the top three prizes, while another ten outstanding projects were selected as honorable mentions by the Birdfy team.

    With the launch of the DIY Community, Birdfy kicked off the very first online DIY challenge in September as a landmark endeavor to invite bird lovers to co-design the future of birdwatching. It also unprecedentedly released exclusive 3D product files, 2D drawings and product dimensions. This significant move is aimed at providing convenience and more choices to users, even though it is at the expense of the company's interests. Beyond just selling birdwatching products, Birdfy aspires to build a bird-loving community.

    First Prize Winners

    With the show’s curtain officially down, the Birdfy DIY Challenge has yielded the top prize winners: Michaela Gable’s wooden birdhouse and Heather Gee’s 3D-printed camera accessories. Crafted with a woodworker’s dedication, Michaela Gable’s project is inspired by a log cabin and delivered with fine craftsmanship, while Heather Gee’s project is DIY roofs tailored for Birdfy’s standalone cameras in a bid to shield them from rain, snow and droppings. They were submitted through the Birdfy DIY web page and social media platform, and gained the most votes respectively.

    Second Prize Winners

    The second prizes go to four creative projects. Among entries collected on Birdfy’s website, the Tiger’s Roost project and the Off-Grid with Jay and Jen’s project caught voters’ eyes. Submitted by Shelby Guthrie, the Tiger’s Roost is built from reclaimed bleachers, and comes with four bird nests and a feeder — a tiger fetching bird seed cake on top. The Off-Grid with Jay and Jen’s project features a super mega extended perch, aimed at providing spacious feeding areas for backyard feathered friends. The social media winners are a project that pairs Birdfy’s standalone camera with LEGO-built decorations, and the Birdfy Boo Bucket, respectively submitted by Timothy Fluharty and Troy Akridge.

    Third Prize Winners

    The third prizes were granted to four projects, also with a creative touch. They are —
    • Robert Wheeler's Project: A 3D-printed seed cover with smaller holes to avoid spillage and squirrels;
    • Charlotte Bone's Project: A wheeled weatherproof feeder with a pigeon-proof cage and a rain umbrella;
    • Finn Steele's Project: A Birdfy Feeder Wood decorated with Halloween-themed decor;
    • Gruff Thomas's Project: A birdhouse-turned-feeder catering to backyard birds seeking a buffet.

    Honorable Mentions

    The challenge this time awarded the title of honorable mentions to ten projects that dazzled the bird-loving community. They are either stylish, thoughtful or genuinely practical bird-loving projects catering to the needs of backyard avian visitors.
